Manchester United will be looking to avoid their longest-ever Premier League goal drought when they play host to Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils have endured an inconsistent run of form in the top flight in recent months having won only three of their last nine league matches since the middle of January.
Erik ten Hag's men went through February unbeaten with two victories and two draws in the Premier League, but March was a month to forget for United as a humiliating 7-0 defeat away at rivals Liverpool was followed by a goalless draw at home to basement club Southampton.
United's latest setback came at St James' Park on Sunday as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to fellow Champions League hopefuls Newcastle United, courtesy of second-half strikes from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson.
The Red Devils have now failed to score in each of their last three Premier League matches and should they draw a blank in front of goal again on Wednesday night, they will break an unwanted club record in the Premier League era of going four successive games without a goal.
The last time that United went four consecutive league matches without scoring was back in April 1989 under Sir Alex Ferguson when they failed to find the net in fixtures against Millwall, Derby County, Charlton Athletic and Coventry City, before ending that campaign in 11th place in the table.
This term, Ten Hag's side remain in a hotly-contested race to finish in the top four, with last weekend's defeat seeing them slip to fifth in the Premier League table, albeit on goal difference.
Indeed, the Red Devils are level on points with Newcastle in third and Tottenham Hotspur in fourth, with the latter having played two games more.
Ten Hag is keen for his side to respond with a much-improved performance against Brentford on Wednesday after criticising his player's lack of desire against Newcastle.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Ten Hag said: "We had a very bad performance because the opponent wanted it more than we [did].
"They were sharper and you could see that in the challenges. We won only 16 from 61 challenges in offence and in defence, the opponent beats us 48 from 78 challenges. Ah, then you can't win a game."
Ten Hag has insisted that he has 'no concerns' about his team's dip in form in the Premier League and believes that they are capable of beating any top-flight team on their day.
"So, we played 60 minutes against Southampton with 10 men. We beat Fulham [in the FA Cup], it's a Premier League opponent," the Dutchman added.
"We beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, it's a Premier League opponent, so there is no concern. We know we can beat Premier League teams."
Man United suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Brentford back in August, but they will climb into third place in the Premier League with a victory over the Bees on Wednesday, if Newcastle fail to win against West Ham United. body check tags ::
