Liverpool have reportedly emerged as contenders to sign Southampton's Romeo Lavia in this summer's transfer window as they look to overhaul their midfield for next season.
The 19-year-old has been a regular fixture in a struggling Saints side this campaign - Ruben Selles's men are bottom of the Premier League standings and four points from safety with just nine matches left to play.
Since making the permanent move from Manchester City last summer, the Belgium international has featured 20 times for the South Coast club in the Premier League, scoring his only goal to date during a 2-1 win over Chelsea at St Mary's in August.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Lavia in the upcoming summer window, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and the player's former club Manchester City also interested.
It is said the Merseyside club are keen to secure the services of the youngster ahead of next season, especially considering that midfield duo Naby Keita and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain are expected to depart from Anfield in the summer.
Pep Guardiola's Citizens have a buy-back clause on Lavia totalling at £40m, however the current Premier League holders cannot trigger that option until 2024, meaning there is an opportunity for other clubs to pounce. body check tags ::
