Sports Mole

Manchester United Women will begin their maiden Women's Champions League campaign with a second-round qualifying tie against Paris Saint-Germain Women.

The Red Devils will have home advantage for Tuesday's first leg, before they travel to the French capital next week.

Match preview

Man United are set to play their first-ever match in the Women's Champions League after they finished as runners-up to Chelsea in the 2022-23 Women's Super League campaign.

Although they will be determined to join Chelsea in the group stage, the qualifying draw has presented them with a difficult test against a PSG side full of Champions League experience.

United will head into Tuesday's contest off the back of two dramatic games against Aston Villa and Arsenal.

After coming from behind to begin their season with a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa, the Red Devils were on course to repeat the feat in Friday's home meeting with the Gunners.

Goals from Leah Galton and Melvine Malard turned the match in Man United's favour following Stina Blackstenius's opener, but a long-range effort from Cloe Lacasse in stoppage-time denied Marc Skinner's side all three points.

Despite missing out on a win, the result extended Man United's unbeaten home league run to nine matches (W7, D2), and they will be desperate to carry that form onto the European stage.

PSG have only played four games in all competitions this season, but they have already experienced a change in manager.

The Parisians bounced back from a French Super Cup defeat to Lyon with a 3-0 victory over Bordeaux in their opening league game, which also proved to be the final match of Gerard Precheur's tenure.

Precheur and PSG mutually agreed to part ways, resulting in his assistant and son Jocelyn Precheur being unveiled as the new head coaches.

After beginning his tenure with a disappointing 1-0 loss to their main title rivals Lyon, Jocelyn Precheur saw his side claim a narrow 1-0 victory over Saint-Etienne at the weekend thanks to Tabitha Chawinga's first goal for the club.

They will now turn their attention to European action, and the French giants will have high expectations for their Women's Champions League campaign, having reached the quarter-final stage in each of the last five seasons.

Team News

Man United are still unable to call upon defender Aoife Mannion, while Emma Watson is a long-term absentee after recently sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty.

After coming off the bench to mark her debut with a goal, Malard could be rewarded with her first start for the Red Devils.

Brazil international Geyse will provide valuable European experience after winning the Champions League with Barcelona last season.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without the services of defender Paulina Dudek, who is a long-term injury absentee.

Chawinga, a recent loan addition from Wuhan Jianghan University, is expected to feature in the forward line after starting PSG's last two matches.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto has made three substitute appearances since recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and the 24-year-old is set to receive more minutes off the bench in Tuesday's encounter, as she continues to build up her match fitness.

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Blundell, Le Tissier, Turner, George; Ladd, Zelem; Geyse, Toone, Galton; Malard

Paris Saint-Germain Women possible starting lineup:
Picaud; Calligaris, De Almeida, Le Guilly; Vangsgaard, Geyoro, Jean-Francois, Groenen, Karchaoui; Baltimore, Chawinga

We say: Manchester United Women 1-1 Paris Saint-Germain Women

Man United will be determined to make home advantage count in Tuesday's first leg, but we think that they will be frustrated and held to a draw by a PSG side that boasts a wealth of European experience.
