Middlesbrough defender Rhys Williams is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a suspected ruptured Achilles tendon last night.
The Australian, whose hopes of going to the World Cup in Brazil with the Socceroos is now in doubt, was stretchered off halfway through the goalless draw against Wigan Athletic.
Speaking of the injury, Boro boss Aitor Karanka told BBC Tees: "It's very serious and we are expecting the doctors to tell us it's long-term. Rhys needs the support of everyone at the club now.
"Rhys wants to play in the World Cup this summer, so to suffer this injury now is very tough for him. I hope he can come back stronger from it."
Swansea City had been linked with a move for Williams this transfer window.
