Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Millwall and Coventry City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Millwall head into Saturday's encounter with Coventry City having endured a mixed start to the new Championship campaign.

At a time when the Lions sit in 10th position, the Sky Blues are down in 19th place having played a game fewer than their hosts.

Match preview

When Millwall started the season with a 2-0 win over Stoke City, they appeared to have momentum heading into their EFL Cup tie at Cambridge United.

However, defeat to the League One outfit was followed by a further setback at Sheffield United and Gary Rowett's side are yet to score a goal from open play this campaign.

While it remains early days, Rowett will naturally have concerns that their issues in front of goal away from home during 2021-22 have remained for this season.

Rowett will hope that a return to familiar territory can act as the catalyst for another three points, particularly with their last four fixtures at The Den ending in victory.

At a time when Millwall found themselves playing three times during the opening week, Coventry have had to contend with unforeseen issues regarding their own schedule.

The Rugby Sevens tournament at the Commonwealth Games has left the pitch at the Ricoh Arena in an unplayable condition, leading to the postponement of the match with Rotherham United.

The home EFL Cup tie with Bristol City which followed three days later was moved to Burton, Coventry losing out by a 4-1 scoreline to opponents who had lost their first two Championship fixtures.

Mark Robins will be frustrated on several levels, but he must find a way of rousing his players who have just three days to recover from participating in their first fixture in one-and-a-half weeks.

The fate of their upcoming two home fixtures is yet to be determined, upping the stakes ahead of a trip to the capital as they bid to end their winless start.

Team News

Millwall are again expected to be without Zian Flemming and Tom Bradshaw due to MCL and muscle injuries respectively.

However, George Honeyman has served a one-match suspension and should return to the team in place of George Saville.

Robins could revert back to the team which started against Sunderland given the manner of the loss against Bristol City.

That would see Kasey Palmer have to make do with a spot among the replacements, Jamie Allen instead getting the nod after his goal from midfield on Wednesday.

Viktor Gyokeres will lead the line at a time when he is being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Cresswell, Cooper, Wallace; McNamara, Mitchell, Shackleton, Malone; Honeyman; Bennett, Afobe

Coventry City possible starting lineup:
Moore; Hyam, McFadzean, Panzo; Eccles, Allen, Sheaf, Hamer, Bidwell; Godden; Gyokeres

We say: Millwall 2-1 Coventry City

Given their respective schedules over the past two weeks, everything appears to be in the favour of Millwall. Robins will feel that his Coventry side can only improve on the Bristol City game, but Millwall should have more in their legs to come through with a win.
