Millwall beat struggling Blackpool 2-1 at The Den, thanks to goals by Scott McDonald and Scott Malone.

Millwall have beaten struggling Blackpool 2-1 in today's Championship clash at The Den.

After some early forays into the Tangerines half, the Lions sent a dangerous free kick into the opposition box in the eighth minute, but goalkeeper Joe Lewis was able to clear the ball away, despite Ricardo Fuller lurking.

Just before the quarter-hour mark, Jose Riga's side had the ball in the back of the Millwall net, but the effort was disallowed for a foul on Carlos Edwards.

Scott McDonald was a constant threat for the home side during the first half with several tentative efforts on goal, and eventually, the 31-year-old was responsible for the first goal of the game after latching on to a free kick and sending the ball past Lewis.

In the second half, Millwall were quick off the starting blocks, launching a ball forward towards Lee Martin and McDonald a minute after the restart, but the Seasiders were able clear for a corner.

The Lions' dominance paid off when they doubled their lead in the 51st minute, courtesy of Scott Malone's strike. The impressive McDonald was involved once again, his cross finding the 23-year-old who duly powered home.

Nevertheless, Blackpool did not concede defeat, pulling a goal back in the 71st minute courtesy of Nile Ranger after the ex-Newcastle United player collected a Francois Zoko pass and struck past David Forde.

With just six minutes to go, Zoko nearly equalised for the Tangerines, but his effort smashed into the side-netting.

The result, Blackpool's fifth straight defeat, means that they slip to the bottom of the Championship, while Millwall climb to fifth place.
