Wolverhampton Wanderers secure a 4-2 win over Millwall, but miss out on the playoffs.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have finished their season with a 4-2 win over already-relegated Millwall at Molineux, but failed to claim a playoff place as results elsewhere went against them.

Benik Afobe went close inside the opening minutes before Wolves should have taken the lead through Rajiv van La Parra, only for the Dutch forward's effort to be saved by David Forde.

David Edwards also tested Forde with a long-range effort, but the Millwall goalkeeper was finally beaten by Nouha Dicko midway through the first half.

The goal came when Bakary Sako ran from inside his own half to the heart of the away side's box, before picking out Dicko, who took a touch and fired home confidently.

Jack Powell's low, fizzing strike came within inches of drawing Millwall level just before the break, and Dan Harding was just as close with a half-volley minutes after the restart.

Edwards then reacted quickly to retreat and head a looping, deflected effort off the line, before Dicko struck again.

The Wolves man ran at the heart of the Millwall defence, skipped clear of two challenges and fired into the top corner from 12 yards.

However, the away side hit back straight away as Aiden O'Brien tapped home from just a yard out after Tomasz Kuszczak had failed to deal with a free kick.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell restored Wolves' two-goal lead when he tapped home from close range, but they allowed Millwall to close in on them again when Jamie Philpot slid in to score at the back post.

Sako added a late fourth goal, but it was not enough for Wolves, who finish the season in seventh place, while Millwall will begin next season in League One.
