Two goals before half time were enough to give Montreal Impact victory at home to Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution.
The Canadians were ahead inside three minutes when ex-Italy international Marco di Vaio played in Andres Romero and the Argentine midfielder calmly slotted the ball past Bobby Shuttleworth.
Montreal could have been out of sight early in the first half but for Shuttleworth keeping out efforts from Di Vaio and Romero in quick succession.
The hosts did find a second goal with the interval approaching when Jack McInerney pounced on a loose ball to power his shot into the New England net.
The visitors tried to find a response when Teal Bunbury's header was narrowly wide of the Montreal goal, but the Impact held on for victory, although they remain at the foot of the Eastern Conference.
