A stoppage-time strike from Billy Smith has helped the Montreal Impact win for the first time in six matches, while also halting the unbeaten streak of Western Conference rivals Sporting Kansas City.
Montreal went into the match without a win in five games, while Kansas were unbeaten in their last six.
Both sides struggled to create chances in a tight first half, with Sanna Nyassi denied by Jimmy Nielsen in the opening period's brightest moment.
Despite a hard-fought encounter, both sides looked to be playing out a goalless stalemate, until the sixth minute of added time.
With just seconds left to play, Montreal striker Marco Di Vaio found Smith inside the penalty area, and he made no mistake with a left-footed strike from close range.
