Fabio Capello could be in line to become the new coach of Anzhi Makhachkala following Yuri Krasnozhan's decision to resign.
Reports in Russia have claimed that Capello, who left his role with England last week, was Anzhi's number one choice to lead the team.
That has prompted Krasnozhan to vacate the position, having only taken charge in December.
"FC Anzhi has accepted the resignation of head coach Yuri Krasnozhan," read a statement on the club's official website.
"Today, the club held a working meeting at which it was decided to grant the request of the head coach.
"The parties decided not to dwell on the motives and reasons for separation."
With the Russian Premier League currently on a winter break running from November until March 2, Krasnozhan has left without having taken charge of a competitive fixture.
Despite the speculation, Capello moved to distance himself from the job earlier today.
