Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Northampton Town and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Wycombe Wanderers will make the relatively short trip to Sixfields for Saturday's League One meeting with Northampton Town.

The hosts are in 13th place with five points to their name, while the visitors are one point behind in 16th position in the standings.

Match preview

The Cobblers have experienced a mixed start to the League One season, having won one, drawn two and lost one of their opening four league games.

Northampton began their league campaign with a defeat against Bristol Rovers and a narrow win over Exeter City, before they fought back from two goals down to take a point off Barnsley.

Jon Brady's side followed the 2-2 draw with an underwhelming goalless affair in their home meeting against Burton Albion at the end of August.

Northampton are now preparing to host Wycombe Wanderers for the second time this season after falling to a 2-0 defeat when the two sides met in the EFL Cup on August 13.

As a result of that defeat, the Cobblers are still searching for their first head-to-head victory since beating Wycombe 1-0 in February 2016.

Meanwhile, Wycombe followed their EFL Cup win over Northampton with another victory in their second-round tie against Swansea City last month.

The Chairboys are now looking forward to welcoming Champions League participants Aston Villa to Adams Park on September 24.

While they have enjoyed success in the EFL Cup, Wycombe have mustered just one win from their opening four league games (D1, L2).

They began the league campaign with consecutive 3-2 defeats to Wrexham and Birmingham City, before they finally got on the board with a 2-0 home win over Rotherham United.

The Chairboys missed the chance to claim another win in their most recent outing as they gave up the lead on a couple of occasions to draw 2-2 in their away meeting with Blackpool.

However, they may fancy their chances of clinching maximum points against Northampton, having won six of the last seven competitive meetings in regulation time.

Team News

Northampton are unable to call upon the services of Jordan Willis, who sustained a knee injury in last month's draw with Barnsley.

Like Willis, Tariqe Fosu and Luke Mbete sat out the goalless draw with Burton, but the pair are both pushing to prove their fitness in time for Saturday's contest.

Summer addition Tom Eaves remains a doubt after missing the first five competitive matches of the season with a calf problem.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys could be without Nathan Bishop, Ryan Tafazolli, David Wheeler, Luke Leahy, Sam Vokes, Bez Lubala and Brandon Hanlan.

Goalkeeper Shamal George and defender Caleb Taylor will feature in the matchday squad after joining the club on transfer deadline day.

Midfielder Fred Onyedinma recently returned to the club on a free transfer and is likely to have some involvement in Sunday's matchday squad.

Northampton Town possible starting lineup:
Burge; McGowan, Baldwin, Guthrie, Koiki; Hondermarck, Chouchane; Pinnock, McGeehan, Hoskins; Morton

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Ravizzoli; Grimmer, Low, Hartridge, Harvie; Scowen, Morley, Humphreys; McCleary, Sadlier, Udoh

We say: Northampton Town 1-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe have already picked up a victory at Sixfield this season, and we think that they will draw upon the confidence built from that success to clinch another away victory over Northampton.
