Russell Martin "absolutely buzzing" to represent Scotland once again

Russell Martin insists that Scotland still do not "get the respect we deserve as a national team", despite their positive start to Euro 2016 qualifying.

Norwich City defender Russell Martin believes that achieving promotion joy with his club side can only be a good thing when it comes to helping Scotland earn similar success.

The Canaries skipper played a key part as the East Anglian outfit steered their way past Middlesbrough in the playoff final earlier this week to secure a place in the Premier League.

Martin must now switch his attention to international duty, where he will be aiming to help Scotland overcome the Republic of Ireland in a crunch Euro 2016 qualifier next month.

"Winning at Wembley obviously makes it easier to play on and lift yourself for a huge international challenge," he is quoted as saying by the Evening Times. "I'll be going there absolutely buzzing. I just want to go away, win another two caps - and hopefully another two wins.

"We've started the group really well, we all know this is a huge game in this group. How can you not be excited by it? I'll be honest with you, not many people take notice of Scotland down here. I'd like them to, because I don't think we get the respect we deserve as a national team, not down here.

"I think the way we've been playing over the last 18 months has certainly helped me. Playing for Gordon Strachan, the confidence he's given me, I'm playing centre-half every week for Norwich now - and that's because of my exploits with Scotland. So being a Scotland player has been huge for me, career wise."

Martin has made 56 appearances for club and country so far this season.
