Norwich City have been relegated from the Premier League courtesy of their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
Ollie Watkins made the breakthrough in the 41st minute of the contest before Danny Ings netted a second for Steven Gerrard's side in the final exchanges.
Norwich needed to avoid losing to Villa and hope that Burnley did not beat Watford in order to stay in the race for another week, but the Clarets came from behind to secure a huge three points at Vicarage Road.
The defeat left the Canaries bottom of the table on 21 points from their 34 matches, 13 points behind 17th-placed Leeds United.
"We started planning three months ago about where we are going pre-season, what we are doing, whether we were up or down," Norwich boss Dean Smith told reporters after the match.
"The reason we have been relegated is not today's performance. There have been performances throughout the season that have not been up to standard, but today we played well."
The Canaries have not managed to secure back-to-back seasons at this level of football since 2014 and will drop back down into the Championship for the 2022-23 campaign.
Smith's side will take on West Ham United, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur in their final four matches of their Premier League campaign and will be looking to give their supporters something to be positive about ahead of next season.
