Giovanni Stroppa has resigned as the Pescara coach following the Italian club's 1-0 away defeat to Siena in Serie A on Sunday.
That loss has left Pescara third from bottom in the standings with 11 points from 13 matches.
"At the end of the game, Giovanni Stroppa handed his resignation from his position of head coach at Pescara to president Daniele Sebastiani and director of sport [Daniele] Delli Carri," reads a statement from Pescara.
Delli Carri added that the resignation of Stroppa, who was appointed the Pescara coach in June, came as a surprise to everyone at the club.
"We didn't expect this, despite the bad performance with responsibility shared out between players and coach," he said. "Nobody thought about sacking him here. Today we saw the worst Pescara performance of the season.
"Do we have names for the replacement? I won't stand here listing them, as it would be inopportune and we have to get together to discuss it."
A replacement for Stroppa has yet to be named.
