San Jose Earthquakes have extended their unbeaten home run to 10 competitive games by beating Portland Timbers at Buck Shaw Stadium in the MLS.
The Earthquakes, who also defeated Norwich City in a friendly on Californian soil earlier this week, scored twice in four second-half minutes before Portland netted a late consolation goal.
Victor Bernardez broke the deadlock from the penalty spot on 55 minutes, after Andrew Jean-Baptiste had brought down Shea Salinas.
Steven Lenhart doubled the hosts' advantage moments later with a cool finish following a pinpoint cross from Salinas.
Darlington Nagbe drilled home seven minutes from time to ensure a nervy finish.
However, despite having Marvin Chavez sent off for collecting a second yellow card in the dying seconds, San Jose held on to collect all three points.
