David Connolly's first career sending off was the major talking point during a goalless first half between Portsmouth and Chesterfield at Fratton Park.
The Pompey forward was shown a straight red card on 38 minutes for an alleged off-the-ball elbow on Sam Hird.
Home fans were enraged by the decision, as Connolly had only just had a penalty appeal turned down after going down under a strong challenge from Hird.
Aside from these two moments of controversy, it has been a fairly dull opening 45 minutes.
James O'Shea is the only player who has registered a shot on target.
