Jamie Paterson has admitted that Nottingham Forest were fortunate not to concede against Preston North End during their 2-0 win in the FA Cup fourth-round replay at Deepdale.
Goals from Jamie Mackie and Darius Henderson were enough for the Championship side to beat their League One opponents, but the Lilywhites were dangerous and came close to scoring when Joe Garner hit the crossbar.
"You are never always going to play well and the manager let us know that at half time. We were a little lucky not to concede but we dug in and showed another side of our character," Paterson told BT Sport.
Forest play Sheffield United in the next round.
