Rory McArdle's 26th-minute header has given Bradford City a 1-0 lead at half time in their League One encounter with Preston North End.
Preston tried to find joy in wide areas in the first 15 minutes, but Bradford's central defensive pairing of McArdle and Andrew Davies dealt well with everything that was thrown at them.
Billy Clarke then dragged an effort wide for Bradford before Joe Garner headed over under pressure for the hosts.
Midway through the first half, Bradford put themselves in front when McArdle rose highest at a corner to thump a header beyond a helpless Jamie Jones.
Preston continued to create chances though, and only a series of brave blocks prevented the Lilywhites from equalising. Paul Gallagher saw his curling effort held by Jordan Pickford as Bradford held on to lead at the break.
