Sports Mole takes a closer look at Queens Park Rangers's convincing win over Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Queens Park Rangers still have a slim chance of being promoted automatically from the Championship after today's 5-2 win against Nottingham Forest.

Harry Redknapp's side opened the scoring today just over a minute into the game when Yossi Benayoun bravely headed home before Jamaal Lascelles nodded Forest level.

QPR were back in front before half time through Junior Hoilett's poked finish but again were pegged back by Forest midway through the second half when Matt Derbyshire powerfully headed past Robert Green.

It looked like a draw might be on the cards before a late flourish from the home side saw them run out comfortable winners, with Nedum Onuoha, Ravel Morrison and Bobby Zamora sealing the win.

Here, Sports Mole runs the rule over the lunchtime game at Loftus Road.

Match statistics

Was the result fair?

QPR deserved the win, but the 5-2 scoreline certainly flatters them. As you can see from the stats above, both sides had the same amount of shots on target.

QPR's performance

After a three-game winless run, Redknapp will be over the moon to be back to winning ways and scoring five goals will certainly please him too. It's the first time that they've score more than three at home this season. Forest might have been the perfect team for Rangers to play today as they themselves hadn't won in over two months. Charlie Austin made his first start since January and did look rusty up front. Fortunately for him, the likes of Morrison, Hoilett and Benayoun were on form. One thing that will irk Redknapp is how they conceded the two goals today - both straight from corners.

Forest's performance

Forest, temporarily managed by Gary Brazil and under the eye of future manager Stuart Pearce today, are now without a win in 11 games and surely can't now reach the playoffs. Having been in the top six for most of the season, this recent slide now sees them five points shy of the playoffs with just four games of the season left. They played better today, but it wasn't enough for a point as they capitulated at the end.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Ravel Morrison: The recent winner of the March Player of the Month again looked a class apart today. He is so cool in possession and took his goal really well.

Biggest gaffe

There wasn't an obvious gaffe today, but Richard Dunne carelessly headed out for a corner and then didn't pick up Lascelles from the resulting set piece. Not a good couple of minutes for the veteran centre-back.

Referee performance

Oliver Langford had a fairly easy game to referee, not giving out a yellow card and not having a contentious penalty shout to deal with.

What next?

QPR: Next up for Redknapp's men in a week's time is a trip to league leaders Leicester City.

Forest: Brazil's side, meanwhile, take on struggling Birmingham at home on Easter Saturday.
