Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Reading Women and Everton Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Relegation-threatened Reading Women will look to end a four-game winless run in all competitions when they face Everton Ladies on Sunday.

The Toffees have also found victories hard to come by in recent times, having won just one of their last six Women's Super League games.

Match preview

Reading have not been in action since they suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation rivals Leicester City on April 2.

The contest looked to be heading towards a draw when Charlie Wellings cancelled out Leicester's opener, but a 96th-minute strike from Carrie Jones condemned the Royals to a narrow away defeat.

With five games left to play, the Royals are just one point clear of Leicester, who currently occupy the one and only relegation place.

Having lost all nine of their away league games this season, Reading's final three home matches will take on greater importance.

With their last five home matches producing two wins, two draws and one defeat, the Royals will be hopeful of picking up at least a point on Sunday.

Everton will be looking to bounce back this weekend after suffering a 3-2 defeat in their away meeting with Brighton in midweek.

Katja Snoeijs found the net in the 63rd minute to pull a goal back after Brighton had taken a 2-0 lead into half time, but the Seagulls restored their two-goal advantage with 10 minutes left to play.

Although Snoeijs halved the deficit once again with her second goal of the evening, it prove too little too late, as the Toffees returned to Merseyside empty-handed.

As a result of the midweek defeat, Brighton have now drawn two and lost one of their three WSL away games since the turn of the year, but they will have another opportunity to claim their first away league win of 2023 on Sunday.

The Toffees, who currently occupy sixth position, will have the chance to complete a league double over Reading after winning 3-2 in the reverse fixture in January.

Team News

Reading goalkeeper Jackie Burns is set to miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury that she sustained in training.

Grace Moloney has recently forced her way into the side ahead of Burns, and she will continue in goal for Sunday's encounter.

After dropping down to the bench for the defeat to Leicester, Gemma Evans could return to the Reading backline against Everton.

As for the visitors, Gabby George missed the midweek defeat to Brighton, and Everton boss Brian Sorensen has now confirmed that the 26-year-old has sustained a hamstring injury, which will keep her out of Sunday's contest.

Nathalie Bjorn was also absent for Wednesday's loss, and the defender remains a doubt due to a groin problem.

After coming off the bench at half time against the Seagulls, Karen Holmgaard could be brought into the starting lineup.

Reading Women possible starting lineup:
Moloney; Bryson, Evans, Mukandi, Woodham; Eikeland, Moore, Troelsgaard; Harries, Wellings, Rowe

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
Brosnan; Hope, Sevecke, Finnigan, Veje; Galli, Wheeler, K. Holmgaard; Sorensen, Park, Snoeijs

We say: Reading Women 1-2 Everton Ladies

Everton would have been disappointed with their midweek performance, but we think that they will bounce back to claim a narrow victory over a Reading side that they have already beaten this season.
