Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill hails the performance of his team in their 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first leg of their Euro 2016 playoff.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has praised his side's display in the first leg of their Euro 2016 playoff match against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

O'Neill's men took the lead in the 82nd minute through Robbie Brady, which looked like handing Ireland a decisive advantage in the contest going into the second leg.

However, Edin Dzeko struck five minutes from time to level the scores ahead of the next leg on Monday, but O'Neill admitted that he was elated with the quality of his team's display in difficult conditions.

"I'm very pleased with the team, we've come here under difficult circumstances, battled strongly and tried at times to get the ball down and play," he told Sky Sports News.

"It was always difficult because the pitch was very firm and possibly didn't allow for free flowing football.

"This was a cup tie tonight and we came out of it well, but there's still a long way to go."

Ireland will be aiming to reach the European Championships for just the third time in their history when they play Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Aviva Stadium.
