Roma signalled their title ambitions by earning a 2-1 victory over Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.
Miralem Pjanic almost broke the deadlock in the first half when his powerful strike crashed against the post.
The Bosnian did manage to hit the back of the net just after the hour mark with a curling free kick that found the top corner.
Patrice Evra was then sent off for the visitors for a second bookable offence, before Edin Dzeko headed Roma into a two-goal lead.
Paulo Dybala soon pulled a goal back for Juventus with a close-range finish, and they were denied an equaliser in stoppage time when Wojciech Szczesny kept out Leonardo Bonucci's header.
Find out how the action unfolded below.
Good evening everyone! We're only into the second week of the season in Italy, but already we have a potentially decisive clash between two of the title favourites, as Italian champions Juventus travel to the capital to face Roma.
The Bianconeri were stunned in their opening Serie A match last week, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Udinese. It saw their unbeaten league run at the Juventus Stadium come to an end after 47 matches and has led many to question whether they can deliver a fifth league title in a row.
Roma were also in action on the opening day of the campaign and they made the trip to face Hellas Verona. They did slip a goal behind just after the hour mark, but a well-taken strike from Alessandro Florenzi helped them to earn a 1-1 draw.
ROMA XI: Szscesny; Florenzi, Manolas, De Rossi, Digne; Pjanic, Keita, Nainggolan; Salah, Dzeko, Falque
JUVENTUS XI: Buffon, Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Padoin, Pogba, Evra, Mandzukic, Dybala
ROMA SUBS: De Sanctis, Castan, Capradossi, Gyomber, Anocic, Paredes, Ucan, Totti, Ibarbo, Gervinho, Iturbe, Ljajic
JUVENTUS SUBS: Neto, Rubinho, Barzagli, Rugani, Alex Sandro, Cuadrado, Pereyra, Vitale, Morata, Zaza
So, that's how the teams will be lining up this evening. Let's begin with a look at Roma, who have gone with Edin Dzeko, Mohamed Salah and Iago Falque in their front three. It means that captain Francesco Totti has to settle for a place on the bench again, along with Gervinho, Adem Ljajic and Juan Iturbe.
There is a settled look to the midfield, with Miralem Pjanic, Seydou Keita and Radja Nainggolan all in the centre of the pitch. Meanwhile, Daniele De Rossi starts at centre back alongside Kostas Manolas, while there is a debut for left-back Lucas Digne, who joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this week.
Meanwhile, the visitors have brought Paulo Dybala into the starting lineup to partner Mario Mandzukic. Alvaro Morata is back after missing last weekend's match, but he is only named on the bench. Juan Cuadrado, who has joined on loan from Chelsea, will also start among the substitutes.
Massimiliano Allegri has gone with a 3-5-2 formation this evening, with Paul Pogba, Stefano Sturaro and Simone Padoin starting in the centre of the midfield, with Stephan Lichtsteiner and Patrice Evra providing support down the flanks. Martin Caceres has also come into the defence alongside Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, with Andrea Barzagli making way from the team who lost against Udinese.
We're just a few minutes away from kick off now, and hopes are high that we could be in for a thriller. Last season Juventus earned a late 3-2 victory against Roma when they played in Turin, thanks to a superb volley from Leonardo Bonucci. It ended all square when they met again at the Stadio Olimpico, as Seydou Keita's late header earned his team a 1-1 draw.
It looks like we are going to be starting a little bit later than the scheduled 5pm kick off, as the players have only just made their way out onto the pitch! There is a great atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico and the fans are in full voice!
The pre-match formalities have just taken place, with today's captains Daniele De Rossi and Gianluigi Buffon giving each other a warm embrace in the centre. We are now just about ready to go in this vital clash!
KICKOFF! We are underway at the Stadio Olimpico!
Referee Nicola Rizzoli is going to have his hands full this afternoon, as there has already been some crunching tackles flying in already. The Roma fans were also shouting for a penalty inside the opening 30 seconds when Florenzi appeared to be caught by Mandzukic inside the box, but their appeals were turned down.
CHANCE! Juventus are looking poor at the back in these early stages and Roma have already forced a couple of corners. From their latest set piece, the ball is allowed to come all the way through to Keita at the back post, but the Malian can only drag his low strike wide of the target.
CHANCE! It's another chance for Roma, as Pogba is robbed of possession deep inside his own half by Salah. The ball is then played to Falque, who works some room and fires in a powerful drives that goes just inches wide of the top corner.
SHOT! Salah scored a memorable goal against Juventus for Fiorentina last season and he picks the ball up inside his own half before bursting forward. Instead of taking on a shot himself, he then plays it to the right for Florenzi who had made up plenty of ground. The Italian has teammates in the middle, but decides to drive a shot towards the far corner, but he doesn't catch it properly and it causes no problems for Buffon.
Juventus have started to see more of the ball in their opponents' half over the past few minutes and a dangerous cross from the left picks out Mandzukic at the back post. He takes a great first touch and sets himself to shoot, but Digne gets back in time to nick it off his feet and put the ball behind, although a goal kick is given much to the striker's disgust.
It has been a very open start to the match, but we are still waiting for either keeper to make a save. Roma are getting plenty of joy in the wide areas at the moment, but whenever they deliver it into the box they are finding a wall of Juventus defenders, who seem to have recovered from their shaky start.
Roma are dominating the possession at the moment, with Juventus happy to sit back and allow them time on the ball. The visitors set up in the same way in their match here last season, and relied mainly on their threat on the counter attack.
YELLOW CARD! The first booking of the match goes to Pogba for dragging back Salah.
OFF THE POST! Roma are inches away from breaking the deadlock as Pjanic fires a superb strike from the edge of the box beyond the reach of Buffon and against the the frame of the post. Just moments before Dzeko was almost on the end of a great low cross by Falque, but he was unable to get a touch on the ball.
The visitors are really struggling to keep hold of the ball in the centre of the pitch and Pogba has not been at his best. Of course it is an area that they have lost key players this summer, and any team would miss the likes of Pogba and Vidal.
Roma have pushed their full-backs into some advanced areas in this first half, as they look to support Salah and Falque down the flanks. Digne has already shown some neat touches down the left, while Florenzi has plenty of pace to trouble Evra.
We haven't seen as many crunching tackles as I would have thought at the start of the match, but Chiellini goes in hard on the back of Pjanic and leaves the Roma player on the ground. The fans are up on their feet and screaming for a card, but Rizzoli keeps his control of the match and decides against cautioning him.
YELLOW CARD! This time the referee is quick to show a card as Chiellini flies in with another poor tackle on Pjanic. The players then surround the referee, but there can be no complaints about the decision.
SAVE! Pjanic is capable of the spectacular and he goes for goal from the resulting free kick which must be about 35 yards out. He gets plenty of power on the strike, but Buffon sees it all the way and collects with ease.
It doesn't look as if we will see any goals before the break, and at the moment Juventus will probably be the happier of the two teams. They have not shown enough threat in the final third to trouble their opponents, and they could easily be a goal down at this stage.
There is going to be just one minuted added on before the break.
HALF-TIME: Roma 0-0 Juventus
It's half time at the Stadio Olimpico and it's goalless between Roma and Juventus. The Giallorossi have played the better football and have hit the post through Miralem Pjanic, but as yet nothing has been able to separate these title rivals.
Roma have been well on top and they saw 68% of the possession in the opening 45 minutes. They also had eight shots on goal, compared to just a single effort for Juventus, although only one of their attempts found the target.
Later this evening there is a full schedule of games taking place in the Italian top flight. The pick of the bunch sees Napoli take on Sampdoria at the Stadio San Paolo, as the Azzurri look to recover from their disappointing start last weekend. Inter Milan are also in action against new boys Carpi, while Lazio travel to Chievo, just days after being knocked out of the Champions League.
RESTART! Juventus take the kick off and get the second half started.
Roma have made a strong start to the half and they are quickly back in their stride. The game looks to be following the same pattern as the first half, with Juventus dropping deep on the edge of their own box.
SHOT! This would have come against the run of play as Juventus fashion a chance. A corner is whipped to the back post and poorly cleared by the Roma defence. The ball then drops kindly to Caceres on the edge of the box, but the defender hammers his strike high and wide of the goal.
Although Roma are completely dominating the possession, they are struggling to carve out any decent openings. They are able to get deep inside the Juventus half, before seeing their attacks break down due to the large amount of opposition players behind the ball.
Pogba has got to watch himself as he pulls back Salah just outside the box and gives away a free kick. He then seems to react angrily to the decision, which is not the smartest as he is already on a yellow card.
CHANCE! Pjanic has come closer than anybody to scoring today and he has another decent opportunity here. He is picked out inside the box by Dzeko and manages to turn and fire in a low strike, but it is too close to Buffon, who is down quickly to make a simple save.
YELLOW CARD! Pjanic is the first Roma player to pick up a booking for a deliberate handball.
SAVE! Roma are starting to pile on the pressure now and they threaten again as Dzeko collects a wayward shot from Florenzi inside the box and fires in a powerful strike that is beaten to safety by Buffon.
GOAL! Roma 1-0 Juventus (Miralem Pjanic)
Pjanic has been the best player on the pitch this evening and he comes up with a moment of brilliance to give Roma the lead. The hosts were awarded a free kick just outside the box, and Pjanic stepped up to curl a stunning effort into the top corner, that left the stranded Buffon with absolutely no chance.
SUB! Juventus respond to falling behind by bringing on Morata for Mandzukic.
YELLOW CARD! De Rossi is booked for handling Sturaro's shot just outside the box. It may have even been inside the area, but the referee awards a free kick, much to the protests of Juventus.
SHOT! From the resulting free kick Dybala steps up and looks to replicate Pjanic's effort of a few moments ago. However, his curling strike is too high and sails over the bar.
RED CARD TO JUVENTUS! Juventus have just had a man sent off, but it's not for one of their players on the pitch, as the referee goes across to the bench to show Rubinho a straight red for something he has said.
This game is really starting to boil over and I would not be surprised to see another red card shown by the referee this evening. Juventus feel that some of the decisions have gone against them in this second half, and they are starting to let their frustrations become known.
CHANCE! What a huge chance this is for Juventus to get back on level terms. Pogba rises above everyone inside the box to meet a corner, but he is only able to direct his header a few inches wide of the far post.
SAVE! Roma are on the attack down the other end of the pitch and Nainggolan works some room before rifling in a powerful low drive. The ball looks headed for the bottom corner, but Buffon gets across his goal quickly to palm it behind.
SUB! Juvetus make their second change of the match, as Pereyra comes on to replace Lichtsteiner.
YELLOW CARD! Evra is the fifth player to be shown a card this evening for a foul on Nainggolan.
SUB! It's another change for Juventus, with Cuadrado coming on for his debut in place of Padoin.
YELLOW CARD! The cards continue to pile up and Dzeko goes into the box for a poor tackle from behind on Pereyra.
SUB! Roma make their first change of the match, with Iturbe replacing Salah.
RED CARD TO JUVENTUS! I did say that we could see another red card this afternoon and Evra is sent off for a second bookable offence, after bringing down Iturbe.
GOAL! Roma 2-0 Juventus (Edin Dzeko)
Roma make their numerical advantage count immediately as Dzeko scores his first goal for the club to give them a two-goal lead. The Bosnian was picked out inside the box by Falque's cross, before leaping above the Juventus defence to power a header into the corner of the net.
This has certainly been an impressive display from Roma and it will give them a huge psychosocial boost in their bid to win the title. Meanwhile, Juventus must be worried about their start to the season, as this will mark a second straight defeat and another game without scoring.
SAVE! Roma could easily score a third goal here and they break forward at pace on the counter. They have plenty of men forward and Pjanic slides the ball to Falque on the left. Instead of looking to pick out anyone in the middle, he drives in a low strike that is well saved by Buffon.
GOAL! Roma 2-1 Juventus (Paulo Dybala)
This game may not be over yet, as Juventus pull a goal back with three minutes left to play. Dybala is the man who scores, as he makes a great run into the six-yard box to meet Pereyra's low cross, before guiding a strike past Szczesny and high into the net.
SUB! It's a late change for Roma, as Ljajic is brought on to replace Falque.
There are going to be at least four minutes of stoppage time. Is there still time for more late drama in this match?
SAVE! What an incredible save this is from Szczesny! It looks as if Juventus are about to draw level as Bonucci meets a corner and makes firm contact with the header. However, the on-loan goalkeeper flings himself across his line to make a brilliant one-handed save to preserve Roma's lead.
SUB! Roma bring on Ibarbo for the final moments to replace Dzeko.
FULL-TIME: Roma 2-1 Juventus
Nicola Rizzoli blows the final whistle and Roma have held on to claim a 2-1 victory over Juventus. Miralem Pjanic's wonderful free kick and Edin Dzeko's header proved decisive, with Paulo Dybala grabbing a late consolation for the Old Lady, who have now lost their opening two Serie A matches.
That's all we've got time for here today after a thrilling second half in Rome. Make sure you stick with us throughout the evening for all of the latest news and reaction to today's games. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Goodbye!
