Chris Martin hoping to learn from England defeat

Chris Martin hopes to be given another chance to impress for Scotland, having failed to make an impact on his first international start against England.

Scotland striker Chris Martin has admitted that he is "disappointed" with his performance in last night's friendly defeat against England, but remains hopeful that he will be given another opportunity to shine.

The 26-year-old was handed his first start in the Celtic Park showdown, replacing Steven Fletcher who picked up an injury last time out against the Republic of Ireland.

Martin was unable to make an impact, however, and he was withdrawn at the interval with his side a goal behind.

"It was a tough 45 minutes, both individually and as a team," the Derby County player is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "We struggled a little bit. Personally, I didn't get hold of the ball and it is important that I learn from it.

"It was my first taste of starting at this sort of level against a very good side in England with some very good players. I have to review it and see where I went wrong. That is all I can do. I am disappointed with myself. That is one of the worst games I have played for a long time.

"I think I am better than that. I don't want to be remembered for that game and I hope I get another chance to prove I am better than that and I will have to bide my time and wait and see."

Scotland return to action in fourth months' time when they host Gibraltar in a Euro 2016 qualifier.
