Blackpool earn their first win of the season after beating Scunthorpe United 1-0 in Saturday's League One clash at Glanford Park.

Blackpool have earned their first win of the season after beating Scunthorpe United 1-0 in their League One clash at Glanford Park.

Within a few seconds of the start Tom Hopper managed to charge down an attempted clearance from the visitors, but the ball bobbled over to goalkeeper Colin Doyle and out of danger.

The Tangerines stopper had to be called into action time and time again as decent chances from Kevin van Veen, Sean McAllister and Paddy Madden all failed to breach the last man's lines.

Despite the Iron's dominance, it was Blackpool who took the lead as Brad Potts bundled the ball over the line following a corner in the 35th minute.

Scott Laird nearly edged his side back on level terms on the stroke of half time, but his header was stopped on the line from Doyle after appearing bound for the bottom corner.

Madden was at the centre of Scunthorpe's attacking forays after the restart as he rifled just wide of the mark after the ball found him in space three minutes in, before firing over the bar shortly before the hour.

Midway through the second half Charlie Goode came within a whisker of curling in the equaliser as he found space on the right wing before cutting inside, but the effort was just off target.

The battle between Madden and Doyle showed no signs of abating as the 25-year-old Irishman continued to weigh in with chances against his 30-year-old compatriot, but the goalkeeper remained steadfast in between the sticks.

Neal Bishop, once of Blackpool, then tumbled in the box under a challenge in the 82nd minute, but despite Scunthorpe's appeals, the referee let the game continue.

Despite all of the Iron's forays into the visitors' final third, they simply could not breach Doyle's rearguard, which meant that the Tangerines would finish the game with all three points.
