Sheffield United reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday with a 2-0 win at home to Charlton Athletic.

The hosts made the breakthrough on 65 minutes when Ryan Flynn arrived at the back post to convert Jose Baxter's cross.

United then sealed the victory moments later as John Brayford's shot took a big deflection before finding the back of the net.

Was the result fair?

Sheffield United fully deserved this victory and a place in the semi-finals thanks to an energetic and enthusiastic display. In contrast, Charlton were poor in pretty much every department and did not look like they wanted it enough.

Sheff Utd's performance

The Blades showed plenty of ambition during the match, attacking Charlton whenever they could with pace and composure. They were able to use the full width of the pitch and caused their opponents a lot of problems with some decent play down the flanks. They were also competitive in central areas, playing with an intensity that the visitors struggled to cope with. It's been a remarkable run for Nigel Clough and his players this season, and there can be no doubting that they are worthy of going to Wembley Stadium.

Charlton's performance

This was as flat a display that you are likely to see in this season's competition as Charlton performed with little in the way of hunger or desire. The visitors struggled in most areas and never really got going, which is baffling considering that a semi-final spot at Wembley Stadium was on the line. The only positive that Chris Powell can take out of this woeful showing is that his players can now focus fully on staying in the Championship, although they will almost certainly go down if they fail to lift themselves from this slump.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Jose Baxter: The United midfielder was the most creative player on the pitch, carving Charlton open with some superb passing and vision. He was also strong in the tackle and impressive in the stamina department. The 22-year-old loves the FA Cup and he once again shined on the big stage.

Biggest gaffe

Charlton had a glorious opportunity to take the lead on 59 minutes when Marcus Tudgay's cross was met by Callum Harriott about six yards from goal. However, the winger somehow scuffed his shot wide from close range. The Addicks were made to pay for that miss as they found themselves 2-0 down just eight minutes later.

Referee performance

Lee Mason officiated with plenty of authority during what occasionally became a feisty encounter. However, his firm style of refereeing did not interfere too much on proceedings. Johnnie Jackson's challenge on Ryan Flynn may have resulted in more than a yellow card, although Mason did the right thing by simply booking the Charlton skipper.
