Former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has been linked with a surprise return to the club.
The Blades parted company with boss Danny Wilson on Wednesday night with the team in fifth place in the League One table.
Warnock, 64, could be named as United's new permanent manager at the end of the season, according to The Mirror.
A previous eight-year spell at Bramall Lane saw him get the club promoted to the Premier League before his departure in 2007.
