Sheffield United strengthened their claims for a spot in the League One playoff places with a 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers in a South Yorkshire derby at Bramall Lane this evening.
In a back-and-forth contest, it was the visitors who struck first through Kyle Bennett, who curled home from range after cutting inside onto his right foot on 17 minutes.
Former Everton youngster Jose Baxter responded before the half-hour mark when he netted from the penalty spot.
Matt Done gave the Blades the lead seven minutes into the restart, but the advantage was short lived as Bennett grabbed his second of the game before the hour mark with a strike from all of 30 yards.
Steve Davies then gave the home side the advantage once again on 71 minutes when he cut inside onto his left foot before sending an effort into the bottom corner.
Doncaster were left seething late on when their claims for handball inside the box were waved away by the official as the pressed for an equaliser.
The win leaves the Blades fifth in the table, eight points clear of Rochdale who sit just outside the playoff spots.
