Corry Evans has found the net on he stroke of half time to give Blackburn Rovers a slender 2-1 lead over Sheffield Wednesday at the break.
The hosts got off to the perfect start as Hope Akpan met Craig Conway's corner with a bullet head that rippled the net to claim his first goal in Rovers colours.
Paul Lambert's side came close to a second in the 10th minute when Ben Marshall went for goal from a free kick 35 yards out, his effort flying narrowly wide of the target.
Wednesday found a way back into the match in the 39th minute when Modou Sougou rifled home the rebound after Fernando Forestieri's shot cannoned off the post, but there was another twist to come before half time.
With a minute to go before in the interval, a Conway corner fell invitingly for Evans on the edge of the box and the Irishman drove the ball beyond Keiren Westwood with the aid of a deflection to put the hosts back in front.
