Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday failed to find a goal in a 0-0 draw at the Macron Stadium this evening, despite chances for both sides.

The visitors made a positive start as Marco Matias saw his shot cleared off the Bolton line by Prince-Desir Gouano after seven minutes of play.

Matias had a second opportunity to put Carlos Carvalhal's side ahead shortly after, but Ben Amos was able to snatch the ball as the Portuguese forward attempted to round the former Manchester United goalkeeper.

Both Tom Lees and Barry Bannan saw attempts fly over the bar, before Lees was required to block a close-range shot from Bolton's Arsenal loanee Wellington Silva following a Gary Madine lay-off.

Madine has his own chance with 20 minutes gone but saw his header fall comfortably into the hands of Joe Wildsmith, before Derik Osede skimmed the bar for Bolton with a headed attempt at a corner.

Home keeper Amos was called into action again with just over 10 minutes to go until the break following a powerful Keiran Lee shot, while Wednesday counterpart Wildsmith was required to tip a second Silva effort away from goal.

There were few chances early on in the second half, but it was Silva who again looked the most dangerous with a wide shot just before the 60-minute mark, and was later hacked down by Wednesday winger Modou Sougou after getting the better of the Senegal international.

Madine teed up substitute Stephen Dobbie on the edge of the Wednesday box with 15 minutes remaining, but Wildsmith was once again on hand to deal with the shot.

Dobbie was in action again one minute later following a cross from Liam Feeney, but curled his shot narrowly over the bar as the game remained level.

After hitting the post in the first half, Osede did well to attack another set piece with a looping header but watched as Wildsmith collected the ball, before Wednesday forward Lucas Joao tested Amos at the other end of the pitch with five minutes to go.

There was enough time for either side to find a winner with five minutes of additional play, and while former England international Emile Heskey had a half-chance for the home side late on, Wednesday managed to hold on for a point.
