Dom Dwyer struck an 80th-minute equaliser as Sporting Kansas City held in-form Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw at Sporting Park tonight.
Kansas could have moved ahead as early as the eighth minute when Bernardo Anor was denied by Stefan Frei inside the six-yard box.
The visitors, unbeaten in four outings, responded well and Clint Dempsey drilled just wide of Jon Kempin's goal on the 14-minute mark as Seattle slowly but surely grew in control.
They found the breakthrough just after the half-hour mark when Obafemi Martins latched on to Gonzalo Pineda's threaded ball before clipping past Kempin for a half-time lead.
Dempsey fluffed a chance to double the lead seven minutes into the second period, but Kempin denied him from point-blank range in a miss that proved costly for the Sounders.
With 10 minutes left, Dwyer tapped home Amadou Dia's teasing cross from a matter of inches as Kansas rallied to win a point.
