Portland Timbers have caused a major shock in the MLS by ending the 100 percent record of Sporting Kansas City.
Chance Myers's own goal four minutes before half time earned John Spencer's team all three points with a 1-0 victory.
Kansas, who had won their seven previous matches this season, started brightly and C.J. Sapong should have given them the lead but, unmarked, he headed Graham Zusi's cross over the crossbar.
The host responded well, as Lovel Palmer and Mike Chabala both went close before Chance put past his own goalkeeper.
Portland defended magnificently in the second half, largely restricting Kansas to shots from distance.
Kei Kamara should have earned his side a point, however, but the Sierra Leone forward headed just wide from Sapong's perfect cross.
