Leicester City hold on to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the King Power Stadium and inflict a third away loss in a row on their opponents.

Tottenham Hotspur have fallen to a third successive away defeat in the Premier League, going down 2-1 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Foxes were rewarded for an impressive first-half performance with goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, before Harry Kane pulled one back to set up a tense finale in the East Midlands.

Spurs, now without a point on their top-flight travels in two months, could not find a way through in the remainder to leave them fifth in the table and desperately out of form.

The Foxes would have been ahead inside the opening seven minutes had Danny Rose, back in the starting lineup as one of four changes, not positioned himself on the line to hook away Wes Morgan's goalbound header.

Wilfred Ndidi also had a shot kept out by Hugo Lloris as Leicester, looking every inch the title-winning side of two seasons ago, harried their opponents all over the field.

The breakthrough did arrive 13 minutes in, though, with Vardy hooking Marc Albrighton's cross over the head of Lloris on the volley for his seventh goal of the campaign.

Spurs responded well to the early setback, creating a couple of big chances for Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli, which Kasper Schmeichel was equal to down low on both occasions.

Sissoko was played in by Kane for his opportunity, but could not get the better of Schmeichel and then Vicente Iborra on the line, while Alli's attempt on the break also lacked conviction.

There was then half a chance for Kane, who cut back inside and curled the ball over the bar from inside the box, but the second goal of the match would fall the hosts' way in first-half stoppage time.

Mahrez, a key player in that memorable 2015-16 Premier League campaign, was given the chance to cut inside from the right and curl the ball out of Lloris's reach from 20 yards.

Leicester could have sealed the three points early in the second period, only for Shinji Okazaki to make too much contact with his header after being spotted by Albrighton.

Tottenham had never tasted a league defeat to City at this ground in their four previous visits, but with a quarter of the game to play the writing looked to be on the wall.

A glorious chance for Christian Eriksen came and went, with the Dane somehow blazing wide from close range with plenty of the target to aim for.

Kane's deadly finish 11 minutes from time set up a grandstand finish, however, rifling the ball into the roof of the net after peeling off Harry Maguire inside the box.

Tottenham were unable to muster a late leveller, with Rose seeing a penalty shout turned down in added time and Fernando Llorente fluffing his lines at the back post, meaning that they have lost three in a row on their travels for the first time since March 2014.

Leicester City (4-5-1): Schmeichel; Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Iborra, Ndidi, Mahrez (Gray 77'), Albrighton, Okazaki (Choudhury 83'); Vardy (Slimani 88')

Tottenham Hotspur (3-4-3): Lloris; Dier, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Aurier, Dembele (Llorente 69'), Sissoko (Son 57'), Rose; Eriksen (Lamela 79'), Dele, Kane
