Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has praised the quality of midfielder Ibrahim Afellay in his side's 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup.
The Potters advanced to the last four of the competition as strikes from the Dutchman and Phil Bardsley were enough to overcome Carlos Carvalhal's men at the Britannia Stadium.
Hughes believes that Afellay produced the best display of his fledgling career at the club after handing them control of the match with a stunning strike.
He told reporters: "I thought he played really well - arguably one of his best games since he has come to the club.
"But he is a quality player. You look at his CV and he is a player of talent. So we shouldn't be surprised when he is able to score a goal like that. It was a great strike."
Afellay joined Stoke in the summer on a free transfer following his release by Barcelona.
