Charlie Adam has admitted that Stoke City are in a relegation battle this season.
The Potters currently sit just three points above the Premier League relegation zone after a run of one win in 13 games.
Adam has urged his teammates to show character in their bid to secure survival in the English top flight.
"Yes, we are in a relegation fight and now it is about character," Adam said.
"We will see how good the character of the group is. It has got to be in question now and we have got to step up to the mark.
"It is a relegation fight and we need to pick ourselves up for next week. There are no easy games in this league and none bigger than Manchester United next Sunday."
Stoke welcome Manchester United next Sunday afternoon.
