Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has reportedly made a late move to hijack Cardiff City's pursuit of Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira.
The 21-year-old is available on a season-long loan deal, with Benfica looking for the forward to continue his development by playing regular top-flight football elsewhere.
Cardiff have been in protracted negotiations to sign the Portuguese international for a few weeks, but have been outbid by Stoke in the last 24 hours.
The Potters have offered a fee of £860,000 to take the forward on a one-year loan deal and are confident of completing it this week, according to The Mirror.
Oliveira spent last season with La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna, scoring four times in 30 appearances.
