Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that he is happy with the 1-0 win against Southampton, calling it a "good afternoon" for the club.
The victory at the Stadium of Light means that the Black Cats are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, and Poyet says that it was important for some players to get time on the pitch.
"We had back a couple of players that we needed, players that hadn't been playing," Poyet told BT Sport.
"(Emanuele) Giaccherini played 90 minutes, and Craig Gardner with a good goal and he'd already had a shot on goal, he was just in the right place at the right time. It was a good afternoon for us."
Sunderland have lost just once in their last 10 matches in all competitions.
