Sunderland defender Wes Brown has said that his side's performance against Manchester City in midweek can help them in their bid for Premier League survival.
The Black Cats looked to be heading for three vital points, before a late goal from Samir Nasri earned the hosts a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
The result leaves Sunderland bottom of the Premier League table and six points adrift of safety, but Brown claims that his teammates can take heart from their performance against a club that are challenging for the title.
"There's still a chance we can do what we need to do and that's what we've got to keep hoping and striving for," he told the club's official website.
"The result against City can give us the confidence to go out and turn in more performances to achieve that."
Sunderland are next in action when they visit Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
