Sunderland boss Gus Poyet believes that the confidence from his side's Capital One Cup win over Chelsea will carry into their Premier League form.
Goals from Fabio Borini and Ki Sung-Yeung handed the Black Cats victory over the Blues to send them into the semi-finals of the League Cup, and Poyet hopes that will boost his side for their relegation scrap against Norwich City.
He told the club's official website: "It's incredible what extra time brings to a team. If you go there and lose it can destroy you, and the opposite if you win.
"Then it looks like you didn't play the extra time because mentally you're so happy. That helps. Having said that we will follow the process we need to make sure the players recover [for Saturday].
"It's going to be tough. But we are at home and these are games we need to win. The key on Tuesday was trying to win the game and take that confidence we've been talking about into Saturday."
Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League table after 16 games this season.
