Swansea City have failed to take charge against St Gallen during a goalless first half at the Liberty Stadium.
The hosts started brightly, with Michu looking threatening when he struck one effort wide before testing Daniel Lopar with a tame shot from just outside the area.
St Gallen were gifted the opportunity to take the lead when Dwight Tiendalli was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.
However, Goran Karanovic failed to convert from 12 yards as Gerhard Tremmel saved a weak penalty from the forward.
The visitors were once again at fault for failing to take advantage of a clear chance just a couple of moments later when Marco Mathys sprinted clear of the Swansea defence before dragging his shot wide of the target.
Swansea were inches away going ahead when Ben Davies delivered a dangerous free kick but Jordi Amat's header was tipped onto the post by Lopar.
Wilfried Bony combined well with Michu just before the break but the former's effort drifted wide of the post from outside the box.
