Nathan Dyer admits that the Europa League exhausted the Swansea City players last season.

Swansea City midfielder Nathan Dyer has admitted that playing in the Europa League exhausted the team last season.

Qualifying for the tournament meant that the Swans played a total of 54 games during the 2013-14 campaign.

Despite claiming that European competition pushed the squad to its limits, Dyer believes that the experience was ultimately a valuable one.

"Being in the Europa League has been very hard," the 26-year-old told Wales Online. "We haven't got a massive squad so trying to play those games, then play in the cups and the league, it's difficult, especially as a new team coming into that situation.

"It's been a great learning curve for us as well, we know about these games now and how to handle it all if we get another chance."

Swansea finished the Premier League season in 12th place in the table.
