Swansea City are hoping to conclude the signing of Darnel Situ during the January transfer window.
A deal was reached during the summer but FIFA refused to grant international clearance after not all of the paperwork was completed before the transfer window closed.
However, the Swans have renewed their interest and would like the 19-year-old to arrive at the Liberty Stadium next month.
"Darnel is not ready to come straight into the first team, but he is a good kid who is hungry to do well," Rodgers told the South Wales Evening Post.
"Hopefully we can close that deal in January and he will be a development player for us."
Situ has spent two years with French club RC Lens.
