Torino kept alive their slim hopes of qualifying for the Europa League by beating Chievo 2-0 in their Serie A match this afternoon.
Giuseppe Vives had an opening early on for the hosts, but his low effort from a tight angle was comfortably saved by Francesco Bardi.
Joseph Martinez then fired in a strike from range that deflected a few inches wide of the far post.
Chievo struggled to pose much of an attacking threat and it took them until the end of the first half to get a shot on target, but Valter Birsa's free kick was comfortably saved by Daniele Padelli.
The teams headed into the break on level terms, but Maxi Lopez gave Torino the lead within six minutes of the restart when he headed in from close range after Chievo had failed to clear a corner.
In the 69th minute, Lopez grabbed his second goal of the match for Torino as he raced onto Nikola Maksimovic's pass before sliding a low effort across Bardi and into the far corner.
Lopez had a late chance to score a hat-trick when his close-range effort was blocked, but his double proved enough to guide his side to the three points.
