The majority of the clubs in the Football League get their seasons off and running today, but that is not expected to stop some deals from being completed.
Meanwhile, Europe's top leagues are at least a week away from starting, so plenty of transfers are anticipated over the next few hours.

Let's start, though, with some of the stories that have been making the headlines over the last few hours:
Manchester United to bid £55m for Angel di Maria?

Are Manchester United about to part with a hefty £55m? Well, according to one report this morning, that is the fee that they are prepared to part with to sign Real Madrid's Argentine winger Angel di Maria after Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race to sign him.
MEDICAL! According to Sky Sports News, Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster is on his way to the South Coast for a medical with Southampton. The Saints are thought to have had a bid in the region of £10m accepted for the England international last night.
DONE DEAL! It has taken a little while, but Newcastle United have completed the signings of Nottingham Forest duo Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles. The story is developing here.

Staying in the Premier League and Shinji Kagawa, who has been heavily linked with switches to Atletico Madrid and his former club Borussia Dortmund of late. However, the Japanese playmaker has suggested that he is keen to remain with Manchester United for a third season.
More news from United and it surrounds their reported pursuit of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal. It's believed that the Chile international remains Louis van Gaal's number one target, but should the deal not come off, he's drawn up a list alternative options. According to a report, top of that list is Barcelona's former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song.
Some confusion down in the Championship surrounding the future of Adam Clayton. It was expected that the Huddersfield Town midfielder would join Middlesbrough, but it's been reported that he has called off that move because he would prefer to link up with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Thanks Liam! Cardiff City have already started the new season with a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers last night, but it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still keen to add to his squad. The Welsh side have reportedly opened talks with West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison.
Atletico Madrid are being linked to a host of strikers at the moment as they look to replace Diego Costa, who joined Chelsea earlier this summer. Despite Jose Mourinho insisting that Fernando Torres is not for sale, the Spaniard is still thought to be on the La Liga champions' list.
Manchester United have already seen one player join Juventus this summer, with Patrice Evra making the switch to Serie A. However, it seems Javier Hernandez could be reunited for his former teammate, as reports it the Italian media suggest that the Serie A champions are keen to sign the Mexico international.
Blackburn Rovers are already off the mark with a draw against Cardiff City last night, but Gary Bowyer has revealed that he is keen to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window.

Arsnal defender Thomas Vermaelen is expected to join Barcelona this summer, and has apparently arrived in Spain ahead of a medical with the Catalan giants.
DONE DEAL! Barnsley have announced that striker Leroy Lita has joined the club on a one-year contract.

There has been a reported development in the future of Di Maria this afternoon. Manchester United are said to have made a bid for his services, but they are yet to hear back from Real Madrid. Speculation has claimed that the Premier League side have offered around £55m for the Argentine winger.
Could there be a new arrival at Newcastle United shortly? One report has suggested that the Magpies are close to securing the loan services of Arsenal striker Joel Campbell.
Leaving the Premier League, though, could well be Kolo Toure. Reports in Turkey have claimed that Liverpool have accepted a bid of £1.6m for the veteran centre-back. He is now expected to travel for a medical and discussions over personal terms. Toure arrived in England back in 2002 with Arsenal.
DONE DEAL! There will be a new face at Sheffield Wednesday shortly in the form of Stevie May, who has signed on at Hillsborough from Scottish side St Johnstone.
So, where is Stephen Quinn going, then? It's expected that the midfielder will leave Hull City shortly and one report has claimed that a number of clubs in the Premier League and Championship are keen on his services. The 28-year-old could be available relatively cheaply as well, mainly because he has just 12 months left to run on his deal at the KC Stadium.

There's still a week for the Premier League sides to bring in more players for the start of their campaigns, but Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has insisted that they are not on the verge of a move for Andrew Johnson.
Manchester United and Barcelona are both thought to be in the process of trying to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina. According to the latest reports, the 26-year-old is leaning towards Barcelona because of United's ongoing pursuit of Angel di Maria.
One player who could be on his way to Old Trafford though is Marcos Rojo. The Sporting Lisbon defender has fueled speculation of a move after following several of the club's players in Instagram.
Napoli's Eduardo Vargas could be on his way to the Premier League. According to reports, the Chile international is attracting interest from Arsenal.
Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has been speaking about his future. The Argentine international has suggested that he would be interested in finishing his career in Australia.
DONE DEAL! Fulham goalkepeer Maarten Stekelenburg has joined Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on loan for the 2014-15 season.
DONE DEAL! After much speculation, Barcelona have announced that they have signed Thomas Vermaelen from Arsenal on a five-year contract.
