Good morning and welcome to Sports Mole's live transfer blog. Yesterday saw plenty of movement in the winter window, both domestically and abroad, and hopefully we will see more of the same throughout today.
While Andrej Kramaric completed his
record-breaking move to Leicester City, Manchester United
snapped up Victor Valdes and Xherdan Shaqiri
opted for Inter Milan over Liverpool, there are still plenty of matters to be resolved.
There's been plenty of speculation emerging overnight concerning some of world football's biggest names, which we have conveniently rounded up in the first of today's
Transfer Talk Updates.
Reports linking Lionel Messi with a record-breaking move to Chelsea just refuse to go away at the moment, with
The Sun today suggesting that a deal worth up to £500m (yep, that's right) could be agreed by Barcelona.
Forget the current transfer window, this would be the biggest coup of all time IF it comes off. Read more on that developing story right here.
Right, that's all from me this morning. I will now pass things over to Danielle Joynson, who as ever will keep you updated with all the latest goings on.
Thanks Dan! Let's delve right in, shall we? Liverpool have begun their hunt for Steven Gerrard's replacement, and according to reports, Roma's Miralem Pjanic ticks all the boxes for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. It is believed that the Merseyside outfit are planning to
launch a £23.5m bid for the 24-year-old midfielder.
Staying in the Premier League, and Hull City boss Steve Bruce has revealed that the club have
held talks with Jermain Defoe's agents regarding a move this month, but that is "as far as it's gone". Defoe, who plays for MLS side Toronto, will return to England next week temporarily to train with his former club Tottenham Hotspur.
As mentioned earlier, Chelsea are reportedly considering an audacious swoop for Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who played alongside the four-time Ballon d'Or winner for three years, has
rubbished suggestions that he is trying to convince the Argentine to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
Now, there seems to be plenty of confusion over Frank Lampard's contract situation. Last August, it was announced that the midfielder had joined MLS side New York City FC on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea. The 36-year-old then went on to sign for Manchester City on an apparent loan deal, but yesterday, the Premier League claimed that Lampard is solely registered to the English champions. The former England international has now had his say, and he doesn't seem best pleased with the
"lies and nonsense"...
DONE DEAL! Let's move down to the Championship and bring you the news that Cardiff City
have signed Alex Revell from Rotherham United, subject to international clearance. The striker, who has been signed for an undisclosed fee, has signed a contract until June 30, 2017.
My stint on transfer watch is over for the time being, but I shall leave you in the capable hands of my colleague Darren Plant, who will update you with all the latest news over the next three hours. Enjoy!
Thanks Danielle. The first bit of news that I will bring you this afternoon is a completed deal involving Manchester City. Don't get too excited, though. Midfielder Albert Rusnak, who never made a first-team appearance for the club, has
left the Etihad Stadium to move to Eredivisie outfit Groningen.
After an impressive pre-season with Manchester United, Jesse Lingard went off the radar after suffering an injury during the opening game of the season, but after returning to fitness, the 22-year-old could be in line for some first-team action with Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are
reportedly interested in securing a loan deal for the England Under-21 international.
Since the turn of the year, Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, but Blues assistant Steve Holland has moved to calm speculation of an imminent pursuit of the 27-year-old by insisting that there will be
no transfer activity at Stamford Bridge during the January window.
Miguel Layun may have only signed for Granada at the end of December, but he is already on the move for the second time in the space of 11 days. The Mexico international has made the
switch to Watford after penning a contract until 2019.
It's already been a busy afternoon for rumours and done deals, and we have another one to bring you right now. Everton midfielder John Lundstram has made his
loan return to Leyton Orient after spending the majority of the campaign at Blackpool.
They may have only made five appearances between them all season but Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that Matija Nastasic and Scott Sinclair
won't be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium on the cheap. Nastasic has been linked with Schalke 04, while Sinclair is wanted by Aston Villa.
Blackpool need all the help they can in the Championship, and the Seasiders have moved to strengthen their squad with the
signing of former New York Red Bulls striker Saer Sene.
So, Manchester City have finally admitted that they misled fans with regards to Frank Lampard's contract situation. The Premier League champions have claimed that the midfielder made a "head of terms commitment" to join MLS side New York City FC in January, but his "short-term contract" with City was extended until the end of the season. So, to sum up, Lampard never signed a deal with NYCFC, but does intend to join up with the team in the summer. If you'd like to try to wrap your head around this one,
read more here.
You may be wondering how close Stoke City actually came to signing Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri, who eventually opted to
join Inter Milan on loan. Potters boss Mark Hughes has been speaking to the media this afternoon and he has revealed that despite Shaqiri attracting interest from Liverpool and the like, Stoke were
"serious contenders" for the winger's signature.
There's some good news to report for Liverpool fans! Many questions have been raised about Raheem Sterling's long-term future at Anfield, with Real Madrid reportedly circling. However, fresh reports have emerged claiming that the England international will sign a new five-year contract at Liverpool within the next seven days.
Read more.Staying in the Premier League, and Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has
confirmed that the club have offered Jack Cork a new contract as the midfielder's current deal expires in the summer.
Moussa Sissoko has addressed speculation linking him with a move away from Newcastle United this month...
Manchester United made their first signing of the winter window when goalkeeper Victor Valdes signed an
18-month contract yesterday. However, manager Louis van Gaal has
refused to discuss the prospect of more deals being done at Old Trafford before the end of the month.
Saido Berahino hasn't been far from the gossip pages, and West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has suggested today that the England Under-21 international
does have a price. Despite this, Pulis insists that he wants to keep the forward this month and reveals that the club are yet to receive an offer for Berahino, who has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
DONE DEAL! Middlesbrough
announce the signing of highly-rated defender Tomas Kalas on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.
Right, that's all from me folks, but I shall hand you over to my colleague Sian Cowper, who will be on transfer watch for the next few hours. I'll leave you with a neat evening roundup of all the transfer news that has come our way throughout today.
Click here. Thanks Danielle. Good evening! It may be the evening, but there's still plenty of news to come this evening. Let's start with an update on Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo. The French Under-21 international has been linked with a loan move to Bordeaux, but manager Arsene Wenger is keen to keep him in England. Despite this, Wenger has said that the forward
will go on loan this month, but he has reiterated his desire to see him go to another Premier League club.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but it looks like he may have a choice of clubs in England. Arsenal reportedly made a £62m bid for the Uruguayan recently, but it is now being rumoured that Manchester United will
look to sign the forward in the summer.
Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew may have only been in charge of the club for a week, but he's already ruled out a January exit for winger Yannick Bolasie, insisting that he is
not expecting a bid for the 25-year-old this month.
Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic has been linked with a move away from the Premier League champions this month, and it looks like he is
on the verge of signing a contract with Bundesliga side Schalke 04.
Despite German champions Bayern Munich having already let a couple of players leave the club this month, sporting director Matthias Sammer insists that there will not be any
new arrivals.
One of the players that has left Bayern Munich is Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international completed a move to Inter Milan earlier this week, and reportedly
rejected an offer to join Liverpool.
In the Championship, Rotherham United have announced that Huddersfield Town striker Danny Ward is joining the Millers on a
one-month emergency loan.
West Bromwich Albion could be on the verge of losing top goalscorer Saido Berahino to a Premier League rival. However, it would appear the Baggies are prepared if he does leave this month, as it's being reported that Tony Pulis has
made an approach for Watford striker Troy Deeney.
Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore has been linked with a return to the MLS before the end of the month, having failed to secure a regular place in Gus Poyet's side this season. According to reports in the American media, Toronto are the current
favourites to sign the United States international.
Earlier, we told you that Arsene Wenger confirmed that Yaya Sanogo will be heading out on loan before the end of the month. Well, it looks like Hull City would be the French striker's temporary home, as Steve Bruce has confirmed that he has
spoken to the Gunners boss over a loan deal for the youngster.
Liverpool's goalkeeper problems have been well-documented this season, with Brad Jones out injured, and Simon Mignolet in poor form. As a result, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the team will be looking to
add a keeper during this month's transfer window.
That's all from me this evening, but Chris O'Keefe is here to keep you up to date with all the latest stories through until 2am.
Thanks Sian! Yes, we have three more hours of transfer news and rumours from the world of football. Who will move next? Well, Inter Milan are reportedly planning a
£7m move to sign Lucas Leiva from Liverpool during the mid-season window.
Lucas has found first-team opportunities to be largely at a premium under Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, although the Brazilian has deputised for the injured Joe Allen in recent weeks.
However, The Mirror claims that a sizeable bid could be enough for the Merseysiders to do business this month. How many more Liverpool midfielders will be linked with the Anfield exit door?
If you missed it earlier, our
Transfer Talk Daily Update
is available for your reading pleasure. This evening's offering includes Chelsea assistant Steve Holland distancing the Blues from rumours surrounding a move for Lionel Messi and Liverpool swooping for Miralem Pjanic. What are you waiting for?
Another Premier League player rumoured to be leaving for pastures new is Manchester United keeper David De Gea. According to reports, Real Madrid
will step up their pursuit of the 24-year-old and are eager to complete the deal this summer for around £30m.
Speculation regarding De Gea's future will have been fuelled by the signing of Victor Valdes, who has agreed an 18-month deal with the Red Devils. However, Louis van Gaal says he is still confident of getting the young Spaniard to stay in Manchester.
Barcelona coach Luis Enrique is reportedly close to the sack. While not strictly transfer news, you may be surprised by one of the name being linked with the position at the Camp Nou. More in a few moments.
The candidate in question? Well, the
Daily Mail claims that Oscar Garcia is a
possible option for the Blaugrana. It is rumoured that the former Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford coach was offered the post of sporting director last week, but turned it down as he seeks a managerial role.
Enrique's position is thought to be in danger after a rumoured falling out with key players at the Camp Nou, including Lionel Messi. Could we see a new head coach at the Catalan giants before the end of the transfer window?
Moving North of the Border. Celtic manager Ronny Deila has hinted that that club could be
ready to move for former midfielder Shaun Maloney this month. The 31-year-old is a free agent at the end of the season, but Wigan could be ready to cash in on their asset rather than lose him for free.
Newcastle United fans have yet to see summer loan signing Facundo Ferreyra in competitive action and they may never see him if Genoa have their way. The Italian side are keen on their own
loan deal for the Argentine forward, but
Talksport claims that the Rossoblu are waiting on the Magpies to cancel their agreement with parent club Shakhtar Donetsk before they can swoop.
Back in Scotland and more Celtic transfer rumours. This time, it involves Adam Matthews, who is being linked with a move back to Cardiff City. Matthews spent two years with the Bluebirds before his transfer to Scottish champions in 2011.
Cardiff have already been
busy in the transfer market today with the capture of Alex Revell from Championship rivals Rotherham United on Friday.
Finally, QPR boss Harry Redknapp has
given his backing to owner Tony Fernandes over his decision to restrict the club's January transfer dealings to loan moves.
He is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "I knew things were tight so it is no surprise. We hold 18,000 people [at Loftus Road] so what can you do? You can't keep ask people to throw money in; they did their dough a few years ago."
Well, it wouldn't be a day in the transfer window without some words from Harry, would it? Our live blog has come to an end for another day. What will Saturday bring? Join Sports Mole's to find out. Until then, good night!
