Vancouver Whitecaps have moved into the MLS Cup playoff places after beating Sporting Kansas City 2-0 at BC Place this morning.
A first-half own goal from Igor Juliao helped send the Whitecaps on their way, before Darren Mattocks doubled the advantage on 39 minutes.
Such was the comfort that Mattocks could afford to miss a late penalty in a victory which sees Carl Robinson's side secure their first ever MLS win over Kansas.
The Canadians fashioned their lead in somewhat fortuitous fashion as Juliao converted a Pedro Morales cross into his own net on 17 minutes.
It got worse for the Eastern Conference leaders six minutes before the break as Mattocks bagged his sixth of the season to put Vancouver in a commanding position.
Mattocks was less fortunate on 85 minutes, however, as the 23-year-old saw his penalty saved, but it would not prove costly as Robinson's troops held on for a historic win.
