West Ham United Women will attempt to end a six-game winless run in the Women's Super League when they play host to Liverpool Women on Sunday.

As for Liverpool, they will look to make it three games without defeat after picking up four points from their last two matches.

Match preview

Having collected just one point in six league games, West Ham are still searching for their first WSL win of 2023.

The Hammers travelled to Old Trafford last weekend, and they would have been pleased to make it to half time with the score still goalless, but Manchester United showed their quality in the second period to rack up four goals without reply.

The 4-0 loss represented West Ham's third consecutive league defeat, leaving the seventh-placed side just one point better off than Liverpool.

With nine points separating them from the one and only relegation place, West Ham are in no immediate danger of being relegated, but they will be keen to pick up a few positive results in their final six fixtures.

If the Hammers are to collect at least a point from Sunday's game then they may need to score the opening goal, as they have lost all seven league matches this season where they have conceded first.

After winning promotion from the Championship last season, Liverpool are well set to retain their place in the WSL for a second straight season.

The Reds have alleviated their relegation fears by following a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby.

Everton took the lead at Goodison Park through Gabby George, but Katie Stengel restored parity before half time.

Neither side were able to find a winner after both teams had a goal ruled out in the second period, ensuring that Liverpool ended the weekend in eighth position and eight points clear of the relegation place.

Matt Beard's side, who are still waiting for their first away win of the WSL season, were beaten by West Ham in the League Cup in January, but they have the chance to claim a league double after beating the Hammers 2-0 when the two teams met in the top flight in August.

Team News

West Ham boss Paul Konchesky is still unable to call upon Jess Ziu, who has been sidelined since October due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Amber Tysiak is closing in on a return, but Sunday's fixture will come too soon for the Belgium international, while Abbey-Leigh Stringer is a doubt.

After dropping out of the side for the trip to Old Trafford, Lisa Evans could be recalled to the West Ham starting lineup.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are without the services of injured quartet Melissa Lawley, Natasha Dowie, Leanne Kiernan and Niamh Fahey.

Shanice van de Sanden returned to the matchday squad to make a substitute appearance against Everton, and she will remain on the bench for Sunday's contest as the Reds manage her comeback from injury.

Stengel has top scored for Liverpool this season with seven league goals, and she will be looking to add to her tally when she features in the Liverpool forward line against West Ham.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:
Arnold; Shimizu, Fisk, Cissoko, Smith; Evans, Parker, Brynjarsdottir, Asseyi; Hayashi, Thestrup

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Laws; Robe, Bonner, Campbell; Koivisto, Holland, Nagano, Hinds; Kearns; Stengel, Daniels

We say: West Ham United Women 1-1 Liverpool Women

With Liverpool and West Ham separated by just a point in the WSL table, we think the two closely-matched sides could cancel each other out, which could lead to the spoils being shared.
