Hertha Berlin have climbed out of the Bundesliga relegation places after securing a 1-0 win against Wolfsburg.
The game went through the motions in the early stages, with the first chance not coming until the 12th minute, but Nicklas Bendtner's shot from outside of the box was efficiently blocked by the home defence.
Just before the half-hour mark, Hertha threatened as Hajime Hosogai's header from close range was smartly saved in the bottom left corner.
Things livened up somewhat as the game went on, Vieirinha and Naldo coming close for Wolfsburg midway through the first half.
Salomon Kalou then broke the deadlock for Hertha in the 35th minute, the former Chelsea striker sending a pinpoint header into the bottom corner past Diego Benaglio.
The game proved scrappy after the restart, with chances few and far between until Bendtner's half-chance on the hour.
Despite Wolfsburg pressing on in a bid to find an equaliser, Hertha stood firm and secured all three points to climb to 14th place, two places below Wolfsburg.
