Nuno Espirito Santo: 'Wolverhampton Wanderers not getting carried away'

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo insists that his side have their "feet on the ground" despite their strong start to the season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has insisted that his side have their "feet on the ground" despite their strong start to the Championship season.

The Midlands outfit moved up to second in the table today with an impressive 4-0 win at Burton Albion, their biggest victory on the road in 12 years.

Nuno's men have now tasted defeat just twice this season and are odds-on favourites for promotion with most bookmakers, but the Portuguese manager remains adamant that his players are not getting caught up by the hype.

"If there is more expectation, we cannot control what is going on outside or what is being said about us," he told reporters. "All you can control is your daily routine and my boys do not get carried away – they know what they have to do.

"If you are a team that wants to succeed then every day you have to do something to make you better and try and achieve that maximum.

"I am enjoying it here very much. We came here to build something, something that can make everyone proud. We are building something based on an idea and a philosophy of what we want and how we want to play.

"What I would say about the season so far is that we have a long way to go – a long way and a hard way as well. But we are in the right way and the boys should be very proud of the way they are working and the team spirit they are showing on a daily basis.

"It makes us think we have a chance of doing it but we will never ever think too high or getting carried away. Feet on the ground – and on Monday we go back to work."

Next up for Wolves after the international break is a home encounter with Midlands rivals Aston Villa, who are unbeaten in the league since mid-August and have won their last four on the bounce.
