Jenson Button hoping for McLaren stay

Jenson Button is hoping that his vast experience of Formula 1 will be enough to keep him at McLaren in 2015.

Jenson Button believes that his experience in Formula 1 will be invaluable when Honda join forces with McLaren in 2015, and hopes it will prove a decisive factor in retaining a drive next season.

Button, who joined the Woking-based outfit in 2010, has not had his place with the team confirmed for next season, and the 34-year-old is banking on his knowledge of the sport to keep him with the constructor.

The Briton told Autosport: "It would help them if they had experienced drivers driving their car for development reasons.

"It is a power unit that you are going to be trying to fill in a lot of holes with the ERS [energy recovery system], so you need driver input and feel, from experience - you definitely benefit from that.

"They've worked with Honda before - a long time ago - but they have worked with them before and I don't see any issues as long as they spend enough time working with Honda closely."

Button was part of Honda's last foray into Formula 1, earning his first career Grand Prix victory with the Japanese manufacturer at the Hungaroring in 2006.
