Eight-time Major winner Tom Watson has said that he hopes to be successful in his final appearance at The Open this summer.

Watson, 65, won The Open five times during the 1970s and '80s, and the R&A has granted him an exemption to play in the tournament for one final time.

"This year has actually been extended to me, one more year of exceptions by the R&A. After 2009 they extended me another five years and I'm very grateful they added one more year to that and to be able to finish my career here at the home of golf," Tom Watson told the tournament's website.

"I'm here to play my best golf and to compete successfully. I hope my game's in good shape and I can compete against these kids on this golf course."

The golf legend was speaking at the launch of the Tom Watson - a Champion Golfer exhibition at the British Golf Museum.
